We celebrated my grandmother's 90th birthday here and my uncle's 68th. The space was perfect for the guests we invited. Overflow was able to go right out a door from the rented room onto an outdoor patio where there was more seating. Our server Julie worked by herself to attend to more than 50 people and she kept a smile on her face the entire time. Our glasses stayed full and stayed attentive. If you're looking for an intimate space with kind staff this is the place.
Overview
Nestled right in the heart of Jefferson, at 1235 Athens St, thereβs a spot that locals often recommend when it comes to hearty portions and genuine Southern comfort food. Stepping into The Carriage House Buffet & Catering Of Jefferson feels less like dining out and more like being welcomed into a community gathering. The long buffet tables are filled with everything from golden fried chicken to fresh vegetables that taste like they came straight from a farmerβs market. Guests often note how the menu balances classic Southern staples with rotating dishes that keep things interesting, making each visit feel a little different from the last.
What stands out most isnβt just the food, but the way the staff makes people feel at home. Families gather here after Sunday service, coworkers drop by for weekday lunches, and visitors passing through Jefferson find themselves pleasantly surprised by the warm hospitality. Reviews frequently highlight the atmosphere: casual yet cared for, bustling but never rushed. Itβs the type of diner where people linger over sweet tea and conversations rather than rushing out the door.
From a catering perspective, the restaurant also shines. For weddings, reunions, or company events, they bring the same comfort-driven flavors and generous portions directly to the table. In a small town like Jefferson, having a reliable catering service isnβt just convenientβitβs a cornerstone for community celebrations. The Carriage House has built trust over time by consistently delivering both quality and quantity, a combination not every buffet manages to achieve.
The location itself is easy to find, right along Athens Street, with plenty of parking available, which makes it convenient for both locals and out-of-towners. And while buffets sometimes carry the stereotype of sacrificing freshness for volume, here itβs clear that attention is paid to both. Dishes are replenished often, and presentation is never neglected. That balance of care and abundance explains why so many reviews mention returning not just once, but again and again.
Whether youβre a Jefferson resident looking for a regular lunch spot, or youβre in town searching for a place to experience real Southern comfort, this restaurant offers a memorable stop. Itβs not just about whatβs on the plateβitβs about the way it brings people together around the table.

I am absolutely blown away with this place. There are so many awesome things to say about The Carriage House that I don't know where to start... I'm going to just dive in! First, the location. The setting is gorgeous and absolutely screams WELCOME to our place. From the moment I stepped foot inside I was immediately covered in the warmest most welcome feeling. It didn't feel like a restaurant. It felt like exactly what it is, someone's former home that a new owner loves just as much. Speaking of the owner, what a privilege it was to meet him. He and his wife have done an outstanding job. You feel the love they have poured into this place. He is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the home and tells it in an attention keeping way. The staff! The amazing staff. What wonderfully happy people! And I mean happy, so happy they make you happy. Every single person I passed had the best attitude and smiled not because it was their job, but because they were happy to be there. Another compliment to the owners for properly training your staff. The food!! If you can ... Imagine sitting down to the memories of what your grandmother's Sunday meals tasted like. That's the best description I can give. I hope they get recognized for their fried chicken. It was delicious!!! Seasoned, breaded and fried to perfection. A must try! Tons of delicious desserts and ice creams. The house! You just have to experience it. If you are a history buff, this is your place! They have restored and revived the house. The decorations are beautiful and fun to just walk around and look at. This place is an experience I'd highly recommend! And it's budget friendly! They will be open for Thanksgiving and we're already planning our spot at the table!!
This place is absolutely amazing! OJ, the owner, is super nice; customer service is on point and all the food tastes absolutely delicious. My husband and I love this place; it's also very beautiful here. We highly recommend coming here; you won't be disappointed. McAndrew Travels ~ YouTubers
When you first walk in the atmosphere is like your at grandma's house you walk in and the smell of soul food. Made with love and passion, the food hits you like you would never believe, and I love it, and I know you will, too. My fiance had the picture shown. I had the ham, chicken macorani, and collards. She loved her food and mine was excellent as well would definitely come back.
I have been wanting to eat here for a while now, and it was not a disappointment! From the moment we drove up, it was an extremely pleasant experience. What a beautiful setting, just history and beautiful details of architecture to look at. One does not mind sitting on the front porch waiting for the short bit for sure, while the waitress readies your table. The staff were so welcoming. To the cooks...the food was absolutely fantastic! The biscuits were the best we have ever had, the pancakes delicious, everything was just absolutely a delight to eat! We will be back and so glad we finally decided to eat at this exceptional place! Thank you!
Best Southern cooking, hands down. I have never had fried chicken that good... ever, even at Paula Deen's. Country fried steak medallions are crazy good. All the sides were excellent. Never got dessert because the rest was too delicious. We will DEFINITELY be back.
